At Illinois Raptors and MAC Athletics, we’re committed to creating a safe, supportive, and growth‑focused environment where athletes can thrive as players and as people. The Raptors Bill of Rights defines what every athlete—and family—can expect from our program.
The 10 Rights of Every Raptor Athlete
- Right to Participate in Sports
Every Raptor has the opportunity to take part in basketball, regardless of skill, background, or experience. - Right to Qualified Adult Leadership
Every Raptor will be guided by trained, responsible coaches and mentors who prioritize youth development and safety. - Right to Play as a Child, Not as an Adult
Every Raptor is encouraged to enjoy the game with joy and imagination—free from adult pressures and unrealistic expectations. - Right to Compete at an Appropriate Level
Every Raptor has the right to play at a level that matches their maturity, ability, and readiness. - Right to a Safe & Healthy Environment
Every Raptor will practice and compete in settings that protect physical safety and emotional well‑being. - Right to Proper Preparation
Every Raptor deserves quality training and instruction to be prepared for participation. - Right to Share in Leadership & Decision‑Making
Every Raptor has a voice and can contribute ideas about their experience, practice culture, and team standards. - Right to an Equal Opportunity for Success
Every Raptor will be given fair chances to grow, contribute, and celebrate achievements on and off the court. - Right to Be Treated with Dignity

How We Uphold These Rights
Coaches & Staff Standards
- Maintain current background checks and safety certifications.
- Use positive coaching methods; model sportsmanship and accountability.
- Match athletes to appropriate competition levels and roles.
- Communicate clearly about playing time, expectations, and development plans.
- Respond promptly to safety concerns and uphold zero‑tolerance for bullying, harassment, or abuse.
Facilities & Safety
- Age‑appropriate drills and workloads.
- Concussion awareness and injury‑prevention protocols.
- Hydration, rest, and recovery emphasized at training and events.
Parent & Guardian Commitments
- Support effort, learning, and character over wins and stats.
- Encourage rest, nutrition, and healthy balance with school and family.
- Model respect toward officials, coaches, players, and opponents.
- Use proper channels to discuss concerns (avoid sideline coaching).
- Celebrate your child’s joy in the game.
Athlete Pledge
As a Raptor, I promise to:
- Bring effort, focus, and a team‑first attitude.
- Learn from mistakes and support my teammates.
- Show respect—to myself, my coaches, officials, opponents, and the game.
- Play hard, play smart, and have fun.

If you experience or witness behavior that violates these rights, please report it.
